We are currently working on addition, skip counting, hundred charts, and more!

Below are a few great ways to practice math skills at home!

xtramath.org is a new website we are using.  Xtramath is a free web based program that teaches addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts which are critical to success in mathematics.

Lakeland is hosting a Sock Hop in the Gym!

6:30pm to 8:30 pm.

Plans include popcorn and root beer floats, a hula hoop booth, jump rope booth, a bubble blowing booth, a limbo contest, a DJ with dance instruction, group lead dances, and family photos.  Dress up in your best 50′s gear!  I hope to see you there!

 

 

 

Pastries with Parents March 5, 2012

Our “Pastries with Parents” event is one month earlier this year.  I hope that you can join us!  It is scheduled for Monday, March 12, 2012 at 9:15am – 10:15am.

Your child will:

  • share pieces of writing 
  • read books to you  
  • show you the steps of the writing process we use during “Writing Workshop.”

New “Good Choices” charts March 4, 2012

The new Good Choices charts are sent home weekly (Thursdays.)  Students can earn 2 stickers per day if they stay on green, 1 if they are on yellow and Zero for orange/red.  If the student earns 6/7 stickers that week – they can get 1 treasure chest prize.  If the student earns all 8 stickers that week – they can get 2 treasure chest prizes!

If your student has an issue at school, you will be notified via email or get a phone call depending on the issue.

March is Reading Month!

Reading Month Overview: The school theme for Reading Month is: “i-Spy Awesome readers!”  In addition the school activities, our class will be participating our own Reading Month classroom themes, activities, and dress up days.  Each week will have a special theme to help us get excited about reading!!!

March 5 – 8

FAIRY TALES AND NURSERY RHYMES WEEK


We will be making king/queen crowns and magic wands!  Students will act out a fairy tales, rap Nursery Rhymes and learn about the important Story Elements in fiction texts.


Wednesday, March 7th – Dress up as your favorite Fairytale or Nursery Rhyme Character!

I will post costume ideas on the blog!  Pinterest is also a great place to find ideas :) If you need any help, let me know.

NON FICTION – SPACE WEEK!

We will explore non fiction books about space!  We will make constellations, sing songs, explore Google Earth, learn about gravity, create and write about our own planet and more!

Eric Carle Week!

We will be celebrating Eric Carle books this week.  We will retell stories, explore the creative ways he illustrates books, and more!  There isn’t a “special day” this week, but we will be doing lots of special projects throughout the week.

Camping Week!

“WELCOME to CAMP KINDERGARTEN!”

Highlights: You will be sending your child to “camp” all week!  We will have reading tents, marshmallows, campfire stories, a nature walk and much more!

Wednesday, March 28th – CAMPING DAY!

Please have your child:

wear pajamas

bring a sleeping bag, 

flashlight

favorite book in a bag. 

***Please let me know ASAP if your child might need a sleeping bag or flashlight.

We need the following items to make Reading Month a success:

We need lots of toilet paper or paper towel rolls!  We will be making binoculars for our nature walk.

We also need Boxes!  (we will need them on or by Thursday, March 8)

The children are going create their very own castles during Fairy Tale Week.  Each team will need a variety of different boxes to use to create their castles.  All sizes welcome!

Mystery Readers!

We will have Mystery Readers during the Month of March.  I invite you to sign up for a time slot.  You will need to provide 3 clues to help the students guess who you are!  Look for an email from “Sign Up Genius” on Monday.

If each child could send in one box of crackers, cereal, goldfish, pretzels, etc…we would greatly appreciate it :)  

Also: Please remember to send a morning snack for your child each day.  We do not each lunch until 12:30 and the kids get pretty hungry.

- practice counting by fives to 100

- Practice counting to 100 by ones

- 2d and 3d shapes (know names, sort by attributes)

- practice pointing to the words as you read

- picture walk (predict what will happen by looking at the book’s pictures before you read the words)

- Point out popcorn words and phrases that your child can read in environmental text!  (e.g. – at the store, around the house, street signs, etc.)

Talent Show

The talent show is Thursday, February 16th at 9:30pm.  Please help your child pick out a unique outfit for the performance.  If you need any help, please let me know. The kids are really excited for the show.
