Meet Mrs. Patty Lakos, our new student teacher!

We are so excited to have Mrs. Lakos join our class.  She previously student taught with Mrs. Ruggles in the Fall.  She is a very talented teacher and is already making a big difference in our classroom.

Mrs. Lakos married Mr. Lakos on October, 29, 2004.  she met her husband Jason at work in 1999.

Writing Workshop!

Our BIG goal for the month of January is to improve our writing skills.  The goal is to have your child writing 3 sentence by June.  Please practice writing sentence at home.  One practice suggestion is to have them type me an email.  The “Space bar” on a computer is an excellent way to teach spaces and children will often write more if they type it.  I will be happy to respond to any emails your child sends to me!  The goal is to let them sound out the words and spell the words themselves.  You can gently remind them that each word has a vowel.

Count by 10′s and 5′s

The expectation is that your child should be able to count orally 50 by the end of January.  Please practice at home.  In addition, we will be practicing counting by 10′s and 5′s.  Please practice at home, in the car, waiting in line at the grocery store, etc.

RAZ-Kids website

The kids visit the computer lab twice a week.  We read for at least 20-30 minutes in the lab on raz-kids.com on Wednesdays  The kids love it!  I get a weekly report of the kids’ progress and how many minutes your children are reading on the site.  It is VERY impressive!  Keep up the great work!

NON FICTION HOMEWORK

This homework assignment will be begin next Thursday.  This homework is DUE and sent home every Thursday.  It is meant to be an assignment that you work on throughout the week.  This is a really fun way to learn about non fiction topics.

It is important that your child turns in this homework on time.  (Your child receives a grade on their report card for turning in homework on time.)

Reading_Homework - DUE every MONDAY

This homework comes home on Thursdays and is returned on Monday.  The books are leveled and cooincide with the Popcorn words.  The books are then put inside the child’s independent book box at school.  Reading Homework begins October 27th.

Popcorn_Word Activities- Practice at home  This activity is fun and should be low stress!

 Arsenault popcorn words 2011 Popcorn containers will be sent home in October.  Please keep them in a convenient and important place so your child can easily access his/her words.

Non Fiction Read/Write – This will begin: January 2012

*Due every Thursday and comes home on Thursday.

You will have one whole week to complete this homework.

If your child forgets or is absent on Thursday, please put another fact from the same book inside the journal and return it promptly on Thursday.  Please make sure that the homework is sent in on time so that another child may enjoy that book.

(“Homework” is also a grade on your child’s report card.)

We are focusing on teen numbers:

• putting numbers 11-20 in order

• identifying numbers 11-20 using flashcards

• counting objects up to 20

• orally counting to 20 and beyond.

• Writing numbers up to 20

Wants and Needs

Students cut out and sorted pictures of needs and wants.  We watched a video on Discovery Education about needs and wants.   The students did an amazing job!

Humane Society Coin Fundraiser!

We raised $581 for the Livingston County Humane Society!  The kindergarten won with $193 in donations!!!  The Kindergarten  will receive ice cream parties as a reward!  Kindergarten rocks!  It was a great project and the kids loved going around to the classrooms to collect donations.  Thank you for all your support.
