There are so many amazing apps for addition and subtraction!  Here are a few that we use in class:

My kids LOVE the “Freefall” apps. This app includes: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. My students have only played the addition portion of the game so far.  Students are asked to find and drag the equations to the answer  as it falls down or type the answer. I like that adults have a LOT of control in the settings. For example, you can set the game to focus on +1 or only +3.  Price: $0.99

Join smaller numbers together to make bigger numbers. You can adjust the difficulty level.  The addition level is free to try, but you can buy all the levels for $6.99.   My kids really like this app, but I didn’t purchase the additional levels.

This app is a HUGE favorite.  The kids love it and I love how it really makes the kids use their “mathematical brains!”   It is also a great way to practice listening comprehension skills.  I am not surprised at how many awards this app won over the past year.  Students solve a variety of math problems by collecting numbers as you roll or drag your marble through a series of fun mazes. (with audio questions for emerging readers)  Tip: I set the marble for “drag” because the kids had a hard time tilting the ipad to navigate the maze.

MARBLE MATH JUNIOR CONCEPTS INCLUDE:

• shape recognition/matching
• sequencing number values and ordinals
addition, subtraction and multiplication to 100
• identifying fractions
• counting money
• telling time
• completing addition equations
