Celebrate the number 100!  Our class will be celebrating the number 100 on Thursday, May 23rd.  Your child is welcome to bring a simple collection of 100 items.  We will be having fun with math all day!  Here is a link to the the note I will be sending home: celebrate number 100 Note

Wednesday, May 29 – TALENT SHOW!!!    We will be performing near the beginning of the show.  Families are welcome to attend!  No worries if you can’t attend because I will be recording it and will send you a link to the performance.

Monday, June 3rd at 9:30am – MUSIC INFORMANCE  in the Music Room.

Tuesday, June 4 – KINDERGARTEN CELEBRATION!  We hope you all can join us!  Below is a rough schedule of the afternoon.

1:30pm The video presentation will begin! 

2:10ish – After the presentation we will move the party outside for snacks and games for the kids.  There isn’t much shade or seating outside, so it might be a good idea to bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on.

There will be an informal certificate/awards presentation and a special end of the year story at 3:15ish.

Day/Time: TBD ~ YEARBOOK SIGNING – if your child brings his/her yearbook to school, they can have teachers and friends autograph his/her book!

Thursday, June 6th ~  FIELD DAY!!!  WEAR PURPLE SHIRT (the one from the fun run) PLEASE 🙂

Child should wear:

  • Tennis shoes, socks, extra water bottle, healthy snack, etc.
  • Also, your child should bring a beach towel, and you may want to put sunscreen on your child.
 

Fairytale and Nursery Rhyme Day 2013 Slide Show April 9, 2013

The first week of Reading Month was magical!  We celebrated and studied our favorite fairytales and nursery rhymes.  We had a blast dressing up as our favorite characters!  We made wands, crowns and princess hats.  We even made mini wands for our reading moose.  

On Friday, we divided the class into 4 teams.  Each team had a stack of boxes.  They worked together to create castles.  It was a great team building activity and the perfect grand finale to the week 🙂  Enjoy some photos from that week

MATH

In math we are working on place value.  We learned that each TEEN number has a group of 10 and __ extra ones.  (For example the number 12 = “a group of 10 and 2 extra ones”   Below is a fun video you can use to practice place value with your child.

I am excited to tell you about “Scoot Pad!”

-Scoot Pad is a leading academic practice platform. Kids are motivated to practice math and reading with ScootPad, gaining confidence and a desire to learn rapidly.

We will be using Scoot Pad during our computer lab time and we will be using the Scoot Pad app on our iPads in our classroom.  Below is a video introduction to Scootpad.  Your child will be bringing home his/her login information this week.  Please let me know if you have any questions 🙂

March is Reading Month!

Reading Month Overview: The school theme for Reading Month is based on the Wizard of Oz: “There’s No Place Like a Good Book”  In addition to the school activities, our class will be participating in our own Reading Month classroom themes, activities, and dress up days.  Each week will have a special theme to help us get excited about reading!!!

March 4 – 8

FAIRY TALES AND NURSERY RHYMES WEEK


We will be making king/queen crowns and magic wands!  Students will act out a fairy tales, rap Nursery Rhymes and learn about the important Story Elements in fiction texts.


Wednesday, March 6th – Dress up as your favorite Fairytale or Nursery Rhyme Character!

See the list of costume ideas on the blog!  Pinterest is also a great place to find ideas 🙂 If you need any help, let me know.

March 11 – 15

NON FICTION – SPACE WEEK!

We will explore non fiction books about space!  We will make constellations, sing songs, explore Google Earth, learn about gravity, create and write about our own planet and more!

NO TV WEEK: March 11th -15th  is No TV Week!  If your child would like to participate, please return the note and they will get to have a special treat with Mrs. LaRosa!

Screen Shot 2013-01-29 at 11.09.09 PMBring TOTO to school!: Friday, March 15th ~ Your child is welcome to bring his/her own stuffed Toto to school.  Please make sure it is a stuffed animal that doesn’t make noise and is easy to transport inside a backpack.

Eric Carle Week!

We will be celebrating Eric Carle books this week.  We will retell stories, explore the creative ways he illustrates books, and more!  There isn’t a “special day” this week, but we will be doing lots of special projects throughout the week.

Camping Week!

“WELCOME to CAMP KINDERGARTEN!”

Highlights: You will be sending your child to “camp” all week!  We will have reading tents, marshmallows, campfire stories, a nature walk and much more!

Wednesday, March 27th – CAMPING DAY!

Please have your child:

wear pajamas

bring a sleeping bag, 

flashlight

favorite book in a bag. 

***Please let me know ASAP if your child might need a sleeping bag or flashlight.

Book it Bag it Lunch! Monday, March 25th,  If your child brings a book from home AND a bag lunch they can eat lunch and read with Mrs. LaRosa today.

We need the following items to make Reading Month a success.  Thank you for any donations:

We need lots of clean toilet paper or paper towel rolls!  We will be making binoculars for our nature walk.

We also need clean Boxes!  (we will need them on or by Friday, March 8)

The children are going create their very own castles during Fairy Tale Week.  Each team of 4 will use a variety of different boxes to use to create one castle.  All sizes welcome!
